Twin Falls Hike in North Bend

Twin Falls is a 2.5 mile out and back hike with an elevation gain of 580'. It is located in Olallie State Park and described as weaving through lush vegetation, eventually reaching a series of waterfalls. It is labeled as moderate difficulty and should take approximately 2 hours to complete. Toilet is available at trailhead.

We will stop for lunch after the hike at Rio Bravo in North Bend for some Mexican fare. This is a counter serve dining spot with outdoor picnic tables.

This group hikes in Bridle Trails State Park located in Kirkland. Bridle Trails is a multi-use path for walking, jogging, and horseback riding. Approximate mileage, elevation gain/difficulty for this hike is 3.5 miles (Coyote Trail clockwise), elevation change ~ 450ft

Hiking boots are recommended given that sections of the trail are muddy or have horse "debris" on them. While this trail is listed as "easy/moderate" by the WTA, it is always recommended to be prepared when in the woods: dress for the weather, carry water, cell phone, bear bell, and basic first aid necessities are suggested.

Other shorter trails are available if you're pressed for time or aren't up for the full hike on any particular day. Those who prefer a shorter route can choose the Trillium or Raven trails following the trail markers. Picnic tables are available by the trailhead for anyone to enjoy before or after the hike.

Parking & Meeting Spot:

A Discover Pass is required to park in the lot, but free parking is available on the street.
Meet by the trailhead sign adjacent to the parking lot. We will start hiking at 2:30 PM promptly and not delay for latecomers.

Georgetown Steam Plant

The Georgetown Steam Plant is a National Historic Landmark - a reminder of the era of electrification when industry was first attracted to Seattle by its' inexpensive hydroelectric power and electric trolley car system. Take a look at the Georgetown Steam Plant website for more detailed information. We will meet at the entrance at 11:15 am and the tour will begin at 11:30.

Lunch to follow at Fonda La Catrina. Optional: Additional visit to see the production and retail store for Fran's Chocolates. There are many other things to do and see in Georgetown and at lunch we will provide a list of suggestions if you want to spend the rest of the afternoon in the area.

This group hikes in Bridle Trails State Park located in Kirkland. Bridle Trails is a multi-use path for walking, jogging, and horseback riding. Approximate mileage, elevation gain/difficulty for this hike is 3.5 miles (Coyote Trail clockwise), elevation change ~ 450ft

Hiking boots are recommended given that sections of the trail are muddy or have horse "debris" on them. While this trail is listed as "easy/moderate" by the WTA, it is always recommended to be prepared when in the woods: dress for the weather, carry water, cell phone, bear bell, and basic first aid necessities are suggested.

Other shorter trails are available if you're pressed for time or aren't up for the full hike on any particular day. Those who prefer a shorter route can choose the Trillium or Raven trails following the trail markers. Picnic tables are available by the trailhead for anyone to enjoy before or after the hike.

Parking & Meeting Spot:

A Discover Pass is required to park in the lot, but free parking is available on the street.
Meet by the trailhead sign adjacent to the parking lot. We will start hiking at 2:30 PM promptly and not delay for latecomers.

Started in 1988, Treehouse (www.treehouseforkids.org) is the only nonprofit in Washington state focused on the specific educational, material and financial needs of youth in foster care.

Engage for Changers will work together in the Treehouse store on projects like sorting and processing incoming donations, fulfilling online orders, putting tags on clothing, and preparing the store for shopping days.

All volunteers are required to register for their shift using Treehouse's registration system HERE at least 2 days (48 hours) prior to their shift. You will not be able to attend if not registered in advance.

Whatcom Street. Mary has been a member of the Town Council for seven years and a resident for thirty years. We’ll have coffee and snacks at Mary's home and enjoy her garden. Then we'll walk downtown for a tour of the historic district, shops, galleries and Museum of Northwest Art.

Lunch will be at 12:30 at the Nell Thorn Waterfront Bistro & Bar in a semiprivate room. Separate checks will be provided. Afterwards, we’ll learn about the artistic legacy of the town, including The Mystic Valley artists. The Eastside Mah Jongg group meets twice monthly, on the 1st & 3rd Fridays, 10am-1:30pm/2pm.

We play American Mah Jongg at the Crossroads Mall Community Room or an alternative location as listed on the Newcomer calendar.

The Crossroads Mall "Community Room" is located inside the mall southwest corner near the *carousel kid ride". Take the hallway in between; "The Store from Layas Pottery" and "Old Navy". The Community Room will be near the end to the right and the nearby Security door, to the left, is where we go for access if the room is not unlocked upon arrival.
The four tables inside may be pulled apart more openly to allow two person seating on each side of the table; four at each table for a total of 16 players. We must return the tables back to the original positioning.
Food and beverages are all BYO, no-host. Bridle Trail Trekkers

This group hikes in Bridle Trails State Park located in Kirkland. Bridle Trails is a multi-use path for walking, jogging, and horseback riding. Approximate mileage, elevation gain/difficulty for this hike is 3.5 miles (Coyote Trail clockwise), elevation change ~ 450ft

Hiking boots are recommended given that sections of the trail are muddy or have horse "debris" on them. While this trail is listed as "easy/moderate" by the WTA, it is always recommended to be prepared when in the woods: dress for the weather, carry water, cell phone, bear bell, and basic first aid necessities are suggested.

Other shorter trails are available if you're pressed for time or aren't up for the full hike on any particular day. Those who prefer a shorter route can choose the Trillium or Raven trails following the trail markers. Picnic tables are available by the trailhead for anyone to enjoy before or after the hike.

Parking & Meeting Spot:

A Discover Pass is required to park in the lot, but free parking is available on the street.
Meet by the trailhead sign adjacent to the parking lot. We will start hiking at 2:30 PM promptly and not delay for latecomers.

Due to popular demand, the Seattle Happy Hour Encore group is welcome to Members only to enjoy Happy Hour at a local favorite, Stanford's Northgate, a classic American Steakhouse. Since 2019, it has been part of a Black- and female-led restaurant group based in Bellevue.

Storytelling Salon is an interest group for members to socialize and share stories with one another. We start with a happy hour with hors d’oeuvres and beverages (bring your favorite to share), and then we move into our stories. Whether you prefer to read your story or present it without notes, you’ll have an opportunity to share whatever your heart desires, including tales of lost love, wild times, and strange people!

Fashioned after The Moth events, speakers have just five minutes to present. But instead of voting for winners (which happens at The Moth events), listeners just offer up their compliments about content, craft, and delivery. At the end of each session, we spend a few minutes discussing a particular aspect of craft.

These events are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6pm in the private dining room of Bellevue Towers.

"The Play That Goes Wrong" is a hilarious farce about an amateur drama society, the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, attempting to stage a classic murder mystery called "The Murder at Haversham Manor." However, everything that can go wrong, does, leading to a series of escalating catastrophes and comedic chaos. (Seattle Rep at the Bagley Wright Theater)

Bridle Trail Trekkers

This group hikes in Bridle Trails State Park located in Kirkland. Bridle Trails is a multi-use path for walking, jogging, and horseback riding. Approximate mileage, elevation gain/difficulty for this hike is 3.5 miles (Coyote Trail clockwise), elevation change ~ 450ft

Hiking boots are recommended given that sections of the trail are muddy or have horse "debris" on them. While this trail is listed as "easy/moderate" by the WTA, it is always recommended to be prepared when in the woods: dress for the weather, carry water, cell phone, bear bell, and basic first aid necessities are suggested.

Other shorter trails are available if you're pressed for time or aren't up for the full hike on any particular day. Those who prefer a shorter route can choose the Trillium or Raven trails following the trail markers. Picnic tables are available by the trailhead for anyone to enjoy before or after the hike.

Parking & Meeting Spot:

A Discover Pass is required to park in the lot, but free parking is available on the street.
Meet by the trailhead sign adjacent to the parking lot. We will start hiking at 2:30 PM promptly and not delay for latecomers.

Seattle's Historic Greenhouse (the Conservatory)

The Volunteer Park Conservatory opened in 1912, modeled on the great Victorian conservatories of Europe. This amazing glass house is a work of art and a living museum. It has housed an impressive collection of plant species from around the world for over a century. It has five separate sections to showcase: Tropical, Fern, Palm, Cactus and Seasonal houses.

Bring your own morning beverage or buy a coffee at EWC’s Common Grounds coffee bar. Let’s meet in the Banquet Room where we can get to know one another while enjoying the magnificent waterfront view.

After coffee, you’re on your own to have lunch in the Banquet Room (you can sign up for the lunch program), buy a snack at Common Grounds, and/or take a walk along the waterfront. Seals and sea lions have been spotted recently! You may even want to take a ferry ride to Kingston on a nice day. Walk on fees are $5.10 for seniors (65 & over), $10.25 for younger folks.

This Mah Jongg group meets twice monthly, on 1st and 3rd Thursdays (except holidays) from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

All levels are welcome to join! We'll usually have willing teachers available.
Third Place Commons is a casual public space without advance table reservations. We'll choose our tables and play first come, first served, with a limit of 12 players. Bring your Mah Jongg set if you have one!

Pont-Aven, France, is a charming little town in Brittany, and is famous for its watermills, artists and not surprisingly, a delicious food item-- biscuits!

Pont-Aven is also the setting for a mystery novel by Jean-Luc Bannalec. In Bannalec's Death in Brittany, he describes the culture and heritage as well as the quaintness of Pont-Aven while weaving an intriguing murder mystery. From the website Goodreads:

"It is a book so atmospheric readers will immediately want to wander through the village’s narrow alleyways, breathe in the Atlantic air and savour Brittany’s seaside specialty dishes. Death in Brittany is a spellbinding, subtle and smart crime novel, peppered with cryptic humour and surprising twists."

The Eastside Mah Jongg group meets twice monthly, on the 1st & 3rd Fridays, 10am-1:30pm/2pm.

We play American Mah Jongg at the Crossroads Mall Community Room or an alternative location as listed on the Newcomer calendar.

The Crossroads Mall "Community Room" is located inside the mall southwest corner near the *carousel kid ride". Take the hallway in between; "The Store from Layas Pottery" and "Old Navy". The Community Room will be near the end to the right and the nearby Security door, to the left, is where we go for access if the room is not unlocked upon arrival.
The four tables inside may be pulled apart more openly to allow two person seating on each side of the table; four at each table for a total of 16 players. We must return the tables back to the original positioning.
Food and beverages are all BYO, no-host. Purchase what you desire from the many "food court" options, QFC, the French Bakery, Starbucks( in the parking lot), etc., Our complimentary use of this space comes with a Mall Policy that asks that we support the Mall businesses for food and drink brought into the room for consumption.
We must wipe and return the tables to their original positions and place any garbage in the trash container.

Kruckeberg is four acres of Pacific Northwest native plants as well as some unusual exotic plants in a naturalistic wooded setting. Our own Newcomer, Lynn Putnam, will share her enthusiasm and knowledge for native plants. Lynn has studied for many years and will give us background and specifics and will answer your questions about this important topic.

Let’s enjoy some fall color! The maple leaves should be in bright gold hues. Even the drive on I-90 going towards the pass is pretty. We will hike upstream approximately 3 miles, at points right along the Snoqualmie river and at other points deeper into the forest. Elevation gain is negligible. We will take rest stops and have lunch at a convenient spot. Total estimated time is 4 hours.

Parking:

A Northwest Forest Pass or Interagency Senior Pass is required for your vehicle.

Take I-90 E to exit 34 (468th Ave SE in Riverbend). Follow SE Middle Fork Rd and NF-5600 for about 12.2 miles. The road ends in a parking lot. Please consider car-pooling. Toilet at trailhead.

What to Bring/Wear:

Water, lunch, snacks; wear good hiking boots. hiking poles recommended; wear layers and pack a rain jacket.
Know your abilities. You are responsible for your own safety. You will be asked to sign a liability waiver if not already completed.
Please be prepared for being out in the woods. You are encouraged to bring the following 10 essentials:

Seattle Happy Hour Encore

Due to popular demand, the Seattle Happy Hour Encore group is welcome to Members only to enjoy Happy Hour at a local favorite, Stanford's Northgate, a classic American Steakhouse. Since 2019, it has been part of a Black- and female-led restaurant group based in Bellevue.

We kindly request that members register for either the Seattle Happy Hour or the Seattle Happy Hour Encore events, but not both, to ensure that those who cannot attend the first can join the Encore event.

Additionally, we would like to invite volunteers to be greeters at future events. Since the group meets just once a month, the greeter’s role is to arrive a little early, let the restaurant know we’re the Newcomers Group, and welcome participants as they arrive. That’s it! Bridget and DeAnna have already taken care of all the planning and logistics.

Storytelling Salon is an interest group for members to socialize and share stories with one another. We start with a happy hour with hors d’oeuvres and beverages (bring your favorite to share), and then we move into our stories. Whether you prefer to read your story or present it without notes, you’ll have an opportunity to share whatever your heart desires, including tales of lost love, wild times, and strange people!

Fashioned after The Moth events, speakers have just five minutes to present. But instead of voting for winners (which happens at The Moth events), listeners just offer up their compliments about content, craft, and delivery. At the end of each session, we spend a few minutes discussing a particular aspect of craft.

These events are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6pm in the private dining room of Bellevue Towers.

Building Access:

Enter Bellevue Towers at Retail Parking/Residential Amenities entrance at 500 106th Ave NE behind the red art sculpture between SuperKim Crab House Restaurant and the North Tower lobby door, (but not inside the lobby door) . Bring your own morning beverage or buy a coffee at EWC’s Common Grounds coffee bar. Let’s meet in the Banquet Room where we can get to know one another while enjoying the magnificent waterfront view.

After coffee, you’re on your own to have lunch in the Banquet Room (you can sign up for the lunch program), buy a snack at Common Grounds, and/or take a walk along the waterfront. Seals and sea lions have been spotted recently! You may even want to take a ferry ride to Kingston on a nice day. Walk on fees are $5.10 for seniors (65 & over), $10.25 for younger folks.

The Eastside Mah Jongg group meets twice monthly, on the 1st & 3rd Fridays, 10am-1:30pm/2pm.

We play American Mah Jongg at the Crossroads Mall Community Room or an alternative location as listed on the Newcomer calendar.

The Crossroads Mall "Community Room" is located inside the mall southwest corner near the *carousel kid ride". Take the hallway in between; "The Store from Layas Pottery" and "Old Navy". The Community Room will be near the end to the right and the nearby Security door, to the left, is where we go for access if the room is not unlocked upon arrival.
The four tables inside may be pulled apart more openly to allow two person seating on each side of the table; four at each table for a total of 16 players. We must return the tables back to the original positioning.
Food and beverages are all BYO, no-host. Purchase what you desire from the many "food court" options, QFC, the French Bakery, Starbucks( in the parking lot), etc., Our complimentary use of this space comes with a Mall Policy that asks that we support the Mall businesses for food and drink brought into the room for consumption.
We must wipe and return the tables to their original positions and place any garbage in the trash container.

Seattle Happy Hour Encore

Due to popular demand, the Seattle Happy Hour Encore group is welcome to Members only to enjoy Happy Hour at a local favorite, Stanford's Northgate, a classic American Steakhouse. Since 2019, it has been part of a Black- and female-led restaurant group based in Bellevue.

We kindly request that members register for either the Seattle Happy Hour or the Seattle Happy Hour Encore events, but not both, to ensure that those who cannot attend the first can join the Encore event.

Additionally, we would like to invite volunteers to be greeters at future events. Since the group meets just once a month, the greeter’s role is to arrive a little early, let the restaurant know we’re the Newcomers Group, and welcome participants as they arrive. That’s it! Bridget and DeAnna have already taken care of all the planning and logistics.

Storytelling Salon is an interest group for members to socialize and share stories with one another. We start with a happy hour with hors d’oeuvres and beverages (bring your favorite to share), and then we move into our stories. Whether you prefer to read your story or present it without notes, you’ll have an opportunity to share whatever your heart desires, including tales of lost love, wild times, and strange people!

Fashioned after The Moth events, speakers have just five minutes to present. But instead of voting for winners (which happens at The Moth events), listeners just offer up their compliments about content, craft, and delivery. At the end of each session, we spend a few minutes discussing a particular aspect of craft.

These events are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6pm in the private dining room of Bellevue Towers.

Building Access:

Enter Bellevue Towers at Retail Parking/Residential Amenities entrance at 500 106th Ave NE behind the red art sculpture between SuperKim Crab House Restaurant and the North Tower lobby door, (but not inside the lobby door) . Morning at Edmonds Waterfront

Bring your own morning beverage or buy a coffee at EWC’s Common Grounds coffee bar. Let’s meet in the Banquet Room where we can get to know one another while enjoying the magnificent waterfront view.

After coffee, you’re on your own to have lunch in the Banquet Room (you can sign up for the lunch program), buy a snack at Common Grounds, and/or take a walk along the waterfront. Seals and sea lions have been spotted recently! You may even want to take a ferry ride to Kingston on a nice day. Walk on fees are $5.10 for seniors (65 & over), $10.25 for younger folks.

Parking at EWC can be limited, but there is plenty of parking 1/2 block south of EWC at the fishing pier lot. EWC parking lot has a 4 hour limit, the fishing pier is 3 hours. Both are free.

Seattle Happy Hour Encore

Due to popular demand, the Seattle Happy Hour Encore group is welcome to Members only to enjoy Happy Hour at a local favorite, Stanford's Northgate, a classic American Steakhouse. Since 2019, it has been part of a Black- and female-led restaurant group based in Bellevue.

We kindly request that members register for either the Seattle Happy Hour or the Seattle Happy Hour Encore events, but not both, to ensure that those who cannot attend the first can join the Encore event.

Additionally, we would like to invite volunteers to be greeters at future events. Since the group meets just once a month, the greeter’s role is to arrive a little early, let the restaurant know we’re the Newcomers Group, and welcome participants as they arrive. That’s it! Bridget and DeAnna have already taken care of all the planning and logistics.

Storytelling Salon is an interest group for members to socialize and share stories with one another. We start with a happy hour with hors d’oeuvres and beverages (bring your favorite to share), and then we move into our stories. Whether you prefer to read your story or present it without notes, you’ll have an opportunity to share whatever your heart desires, including tales of lost love, wild times, and strange people!

Fashioned after The Moth events, speakers have just five minutes to present. But instead of voting for winners (which happens at The Moth events), listeners just offer up their compliments about content, craft, and delivery. At the end of each session, we spend a few minutes discussing a particular aspect of craft.

These events are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 6pm in the private dining room of Bellevue Towers.

Building Access:

Enter Bellevue Towers at Retail Parking/Residential Amenities entrance at 500 106th Ave NE behind the red art sculpture between SuperKim Crab House Restaurant and the North Tower lobby door, (but not inside the lobby door) .
